Newcastle Falcons have secured the services of prop-forward Richard Palframan for another two seasons, with the experienced front-rower signing a new contract to remain at the club.
The 31-year-old has made 51 appearances since arriving from Worcester Warriors in 2021 and has also had spells at London Irish and London Scottish.
Born in South Africa, Palframan has become an integral part of Newcastle’s forward pack, playing a key role in the club’s development over the past few seasons.
His physicality and experience in the tight-head position have made him a valuable asset, and his decision to extend his stay is a significant boost for the Falcons.
Director of rugby Steve Diamond expressed his satisfaction with securing Palframan’s future at the club.
“Palf has done a great job for us on the tight-head side, and I was always keen to extend his time with the club.
"He’s a fantastic character who offers a lot to us on and off the field, and I’m glad that he will be with us as we look to move the club forward over the next few years.”
Palframan himself is delighted to continue his journey with Newcastle Falcons and is optimistic about the club’s direction.
“I’m really happy to have re-signed with the Falcons.
It’s a privilege to be part of the club and I’m grateful for the chance to keep doing what I love, playing alongside a great bunch of lads and working with the fantastic staff.”
Reflecting on the challenges Newcastle has faced in recent seasons, Palframan remains confident in the progress being made.
“The club has been through some tough times over the last few years but it really feels like we’re in a better place now, and heading in the right direction.
"That said, we know there’s still plenty of hard work ahead to get the club to where we want it to be, and everyone’s committed to putting in the graft to make that happen.”
Having embraced life in the North East, the South African-born prop humorously acknowledged the colder climate compared to his hometown of Cape Town.
“I’ve loved living in the North East for the last few years. It’s a brilliant place with great people, and although it’s a few degrees colder than Cape Town, it feels like home. Hopefully, I can catch a few more salmon in the next couple of years, too!”
With his future secured, Palframan remains focused on giving his all for the club and its supporters. “I’m excited for what’s to come, and I can’t wait to give my best for the club and the fans.”
