New Zealand international Beauden Barrett lavished praise on his Auckland Blues team-mate and All Blacks great Dan Carter ahead of the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition.

Carter tops the list for most points scored in the international rugby with 1598 points and is among the 20 players to have won dual World Cups when New Zealand clinched the titles in 2011 and 2015 edition.

He also enjoyed three Super Rugby titles with his former side Crusaders but following his international retirement with the 2015 World Cup he moved to Racing 92 and then to Japanese side Kobelco Steelers.

But with the Japanese Top League tournament cancelled following the pandemic coronavirus, the 38-year-old joined Auckland Blues for the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition where he will be working along with Beauden, who also made a switch from Hurricanes.

"The first day back at training he was giving me feedback which was so good to hear," Barrett said.

"It was just on-the-go, little feedback that makes you a better person rather than waiting to hear it from the coach a few days later. It's just instant.

"The boost that he's given to the team and me personally, it's been huge."

Carter is said to joined Blues more of a mentor role but Barrett is expecting the All Blacks legend to play a vital role at some stage in the tournament.

"This competition could be a battle for survival where injuries come into play but we're definitely going to need DC at some point."

The two players last played together during New Zealand's victorious 2015 World Cup final against Australia which they went on to win 17-34.
