The Hurricanes have confirmed that assistant coach Cory Jane has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028.
Jane is already a major part of Hurricanes history, having made 121 appearances as a player and played a key role in the team’s 2016 Super Rugby title-winning campaign. His latest extension means he will enter his 20th season with the Hurricanes as either a player or coach during the 2028 campaign.
The announcement also comes ahead of this week’s match against the Blues, where Jane is set to become the first person to both play and coach 100 Super Rugby matches for the Hurricanes.
Cory Jane Hurricanes Legacy
Jane’s connection with the Hurricanes began in 2007 when he made a try-scoring debut against the Queensland Reds.
Over the following decade, he became a fixture on the wing and at full-back, eventually becoming the eighth player to reach 100 appearances for the club. He also scored the opening try in the 2016 Super Rugby final as the Hurricanes defeated the Lions to win their first title.
He later returned to the club as an assistant coach in 2020 and has since become an influential figure in the coaching group, particularly through his work with the team’s defence and outside backs.
Hurricanes Keep Key Coach In Place
Jane said he was delighted to stay on, adding that the club has been a huge part of both his life and career.
"I’m stoked to have signed on for another couple of years with the Hurricanes,” Jane said.
“I’m hugely passionate about the club, which has been a big part of my career and my life. Being from Upper Hutt, I grew up watching and wanting to be part of the Hurricanes, so to stay on with the club for a few more seasons means a lot.
“I love the environment and I love coming into work every day, and I’m excited about the direction that the club is heading.”
