Newcastle Red Bulls 19-52 Bristol Bears, Kingston Park

Bristol Bears powered back into the Gallagher PREM top four with a dominant 52-19 bonus-point victory over Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingston Park.

Pat Lam’s side ran in eight tries and reached 50 points for the second successive week, following their emphatic derby win over Gloucester.

The Bears were sharp, direct and clinical throughout, although the victory came with injury concerns after Joe Batley was ruled out in the warm-up and Gabriel Oghre, Rich Lane and Benjamin Grondona were all forced off during the first half.

Bears Strike Early Through Lane

Bristol opened the scoring with a superb counter-attacking try. Matías Moroni broke from deep, chipped ahead with precision, regathered and then produced a clever reverse pass to send full-back Rich Lane over.

Lane’s match ended soon after through injury, but replacement Kalaveti Ravouvou made an instant impact. With his first touch, the Fijian winger finished Bristol’s second try after Noah Heward had raced clear from the restart.

Newcastle responded through Adam Brocklebank, who powered over from close range to cut the gap and give the home crowd something to cheer.

Bristol Secure Bonus Point Before Break

Bristol quickly regained control. Tom Jordan sliced through a gap in the Newcastle defence to score for the second successive week, showing the visitors’ attacking confidence.

The bonus-point try arrived just after the restart through Heward, who finished after neat work from Harry Thacker in the build-up. Bristol’s speed and support running kept Newcastle under pressure whenever the game opened up.

Janse Van Rensburg Leads Second-Half Charge

Moroni added another try against his former club as Bristol continued to stretch the Newcastle defence. Benhard Janse van Rensburg then took charge with two tries, capping an outstanding individual display in midfield.

Newcastle did manage further second-half scores, including efforts from Christian Wade and Josh Hodge, but Bristol remained in control and never allowed the hosts to build real momentum.

Thacker Completes Record Win

Harry Thacker rounded off the scoring in the final minute, finishing Bristol’s eighth try to complete a record win at Kingston Park.
