Super Rugby Pacific side the Blues have confirmed loose forward Anton Segner has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2027 season.
Anton Segner Contract Extension Confirmed
The 24-year-old has made 38 appearances for the Auckland-based team since breaking into the senior squad. Segner became the first German-born player to feature in Super Rugby after moving to New Zealand in 2017 as a school student and progressing through the development pathway.
Segner said remaining with the club was a straightforward decision, noting the environment has supported his development and helped him settle in Auckland.
“I’m incredibly proud to be staying on at the Blues,” Segner said.
“This club has backed me from the start and given me the chance to grow my game in a great environment.
“I’m really settled in Auckland, it’s my home away from home and the Blues are my second family. I love being part of this group, and I feel like I’m in the best place to keep developing as a player. I’m excited about what the next few years will look like.”
Segner Development With The Blues
The back-row forward has established himself as a regular squad member and continues to build experience in Super Rugby Pacific. Coaches have highlighted his versatility across the loose forward positions and his work rate around the field.
“Anton’s story is pretty unique, but what’s impressed us most is how he’s gone about his work since arriving at the club,” Blues GM Rugby Murray Williams said.
“He’s taken every opportunity to learn, to improve and to add layers to his game. He’s a team-first player who brings versatility and energy to our loose forward group, and we believe his best rugby is still ahead of him.”
