Hurricanes have announced that hooker Asofa Aumua has signed a new contract until the end of the 2025 season.

The 25-year-old also signed a new contract with Wellington Lions and New Zealand Rugby.

Aumua made his professional rugby debut with Wellington in 2016 and on his first season, he was the Lions leading try scorer, dotting down six times in 10 games, including a hat-trick against Northland.

He made his Hurricanes debut in 2018 and since then has gone on to make 45 Super Rugby games for the club.

His consistent performance for Hurricanes in 2020 saw him earn a call up to the All Blacks squad and went on to make his Test debut against Australia in Brisbane.

“Brilliant news that Asafo has recommitted to the Hurricanes. He is hugely respected by everyone in our environment and is a big part of what we do on and off the field," said Hurricanes head coach Jason Holland.

“We feel that he has some solid foundations in place to really kick on and take his game to another level and dominate Super and International rugby in the coming years.”

Aumua is delighted to be part of the province until 2025.

“Stoked to be returning to the Hurricanes for another two seasons. The opportunity to represent the Club once again is very special.”
