'Paves' To Be A Player/Coach

Supporters of the Cornish Pirates will be delighted to hear that the club's longest serving present player, popular prop forward Alan Paver, has signed a two-year contract as a Player/Coach.

Now aged 36, Rotherham-born 'Paves' is held in high regard by all who have played with or against him during his career, and since joining the Pirates from Plymouth Albion in June, 2002, he has amassed 310 games for the club, which is a remarkable figure in the professional era.

Alan has experienced numerous personal highlights, including playing for the RFU Championship XV that faced the might of the Maori All Blacks. An outstanding contributor off the field, he has also won numerous club awards, including those which exemplify his commitment, sportsmanship and community spirit.

The coaching opportunity is one that he should fit into well, having helped coach Cornwall in the past and at various clubs about the county.

Commenting with reference to Alan's appointment as Player/Coach at the Cornish Pirates, Director of Rugby Ian Davies said:

"Alan has always had a leading input with the scrummaging here at the Pirates but now this role will help him expand his focus to other parts of the team......at some point he may realise there are other players on the field other than just front rowers!

"Paves is cut of the same cloth as Gavin, both have been tremendous servants of the club and these new roles are just a continuation of their importance to the Cornish Pirates."
