Worcester sign prop Schonert

Aviva Premiership strugglers Worcester Warriors have announced the signing of South African prop Nick Schonert.

The 22-year-old tighthead will make the switch from Super 15 franchise the Cheetahs to Sixways in the summer.

He was a member of South Africa's junior world championship team in 2011 and moved to the Cheetahs at the start of this season.

" I am delighted that Nick has decided to move to Warriors," Worcester rugby director Dean Ryan told the club's official website.

"He is aware of our long-term focus and is committed to being part of our journey.

"Nick is the sort of player who will add to this club and he has the potential to be an outstanding Premiership player, so we are looking forward to welcoming him to Sixways."

Worcester are five points adrift of second-to-bottom club Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership table with three games in the season to come.
