Wasps have confirmed that they will be appealing against the four-week ban of Brad Shields following his red-card incident in the recently concluded Heineken Champions Cup game against Munster.

The 30-year-old was sent-off in the 24th minute by referee Romain Poite of the encounter for a dangerous tackle on Dave Kilcoyne and his absence proved decisive as the Premiership club went on to lose the encounter 14-35.

Shields contested the charges during the hearing but the panel handed him a six week ban that was reduced by two taking into account the mitigating factors.

Wasps head coach Lee Blackett confirmed the news that they will be challenging the decision on Shields' ban.

“I can’t say too much yet because I’ve not received the written judgement,” Blackett said.

“Once we’ve received that, we will appeal it. Saying that we’re appealing it probably tells you all you need to know.

“Brad is desperate to play. He probably feels harshly done to a little bit. Whatever will happen will happen, he’s the ultimate team man and he will react positively.”
