Wales flanker Justin Tirupic expects a strong performance from South Africa in their upcoming autumn international Test clash at Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

South Africa had a dreadful 2016 where they managed to win just four out of their 11 games. In their European tour, they managed a draw against Barbarians, and lost their encounters against England and Italy.

South African Rugby Union president Mark Alexander has come down hard on the performances of the team and said a review will be conducted at the end of the year piling up pressure on head coach Allister Coetzee.

Wales, who emerged victorious only on two occasions in the 31 games against South Africa, was saved by a Sam Davies' drop goal in the final minute to register a three-point against Japan in their previous match.

Tipuric believes South Africa will be "pumped up" to end the year with a win, however, he also insisted that Wales will also aim to do the same setting up an intriguing contest on Saturday.

"It is a massive game against South Africa," Tipuric said. "They will be pretty pumped up this weekend.

"They are a wounded animal at the minute and are coming under a lot of pressure at home. They will be coming here and fighting for everything.

"There is pressure in any international game.

"If we win this weekend it will equal the most successful autumn campaign ever (for Wales), but it won't be easy. We know we have to go out there and perform."

The 27-year-old is likely to face a physical onslaught from Springboks giants Eben Etzebeth and Francois Louw, provided he makes it to the line-up on Saturday and he is wary of the challenge ahead.

"They look like they are trying to beef up the pack even more, which is hard to do when you are that big!" Tipuric added.

"Francois Louw was a big loss for them and (Marcell) Coetzee too, but they have some really good back-rowers in reserve."
