World Rugby has confirmed the match officials for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour, with four referees appointed across the Springboks-All Blacks Test series and New Zealand’s provincial fixtures.
Referees Named for Springboks-All Blacks Tests
England’s Matthew Carley will referee the opening Test between South Africa and New Zealand at Ellis Park on August 22. Georgia’s Nika Amashukeli will control the second Test in Cape Town on August 29.
Australian referee Angus Gardner has been appointed for the third Test at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on September 5. Karl Dickson of England will take charge of the final encounter at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on September 12.
Carley, Amashukeli, Gardner and Dickson will also serve as assistant referees during different matches across the tour.
Match Officials for All Blacks Provincial Fixtures
Dickson will referee New Zealand’s opening tour match against the Stormers in Cape Town on August 7. Carley has been assigned the Sharks fixture in Durban on August 11, before Amashukeli controls the match against the Bulls in Pretoria on August 15.
Gardner will referee the All Blacks’ final provincial encounter against the Lions at Ellis Park on August 25.
Hollie Davidson, Christophe Ridley and several members of the main refereeing quartet will serve as assistant referees during these fixtures. Andrew Jackson, Mike Adamson, Eric Gauzins and Brett Cronan are among the appointed television match officials.
Officials Confirmed for Springbok Away Tests
Pierre Brousset of France will referee South Africa’s Test against Argentina at Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires on August 8.
Italy’s Andrea Piardi will oversee the Springboks’ match against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth on September 27. New Zealand officials Ben O’Keeffe and James Doleman will serve as Piardi’s assistants, with Matteo Liperini appointed as TMO.
