The Springboks have turned their attention fully towards their four-Test series against the All Blacks after extending their winning streak to 12 matches with a hard-fought 17-10 victory over Argentina in Buenos Aires.
Utility back Canan Moodie believes the world champions head into Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry with growing confidence.
Springboks Build Confidence Before All Blacks
South Africa were pushed throughout the Argentina Test but held firm under sustained pressure to secure another victory.
Moodie said the match achieved what the Springboks wanted, particularly by providing valuable minutes to several players returning from injury.
“We got out of that game what we wanted to, so now it’s full focus on the All Blacks series,” said Moodie.
“I think a lot of the boys who returned from injuries aren’t quite match-fit yet, so getting 80 minutes was very important."
Canan Moodie Praises Springboks Character
Moodie believes the difficult contest in Buenos Aires provided useful preparation for what awaits against the All Blacks.
He highlighted the character shown by the Springboks when the match became difficult, particularly with several returning players still short of full match fitness.
“It wasn’t easy, but the guys showed a lot of character, and hopefully we can carry that into the next Test series, and when it gets tough, we can dig deep and hopefully get the result.”
A number of first-choice players were rested against Argentina to focus specifically on preparations for New Zealand.
The full training squad will now regroup in Johannesburg as preparations intensify.
Springboks Prepare for Four All Blacks Tests
South Africa and New Zealand will meet on four consecutive weekends in the inaugural Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series.
The opening Test will take place at Ellis Park on August 22, followed by matches at DHL Stadium on August 29 and FNB Stadium on September 5.
The series concludes at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on September 12.
