In all honesty, Northampton probably wouldn’t have been on this list last season. They were quite ordinary with their twitter and Instagram, but now they are absolutely on fire.

It all started on May 14th when announcing the signing of James Haskell;

From then on, Saints have been very consistent with all tweets and Instagram posts that they have put out. Now, there is a continuous barrage of black, yellow and green making Saints feel current again and definitely more appealing to younger fans.

Every post maintains a brand image that the Saints media department will want to keep enforcing. The signing of characters like James Haskell will have no doubt have helped with this; a prime example is when they got the England back-row to interview himself.

Other video interviews have included new arrivals Dom Barrow and Ben Franks. The interviews were timed for one minute so it was a quick way for a fan to learn more about the clubs new player.

The club have also even gone to the lengths of getting someone to draw caricatures of the best-known names.

The reason Saints are on this list is largely because of how much better their social media has got in such a short space of time.

Bristol Bears

Ever since the clubs’ rebrand went ahead, Bristol’s social media has been difficult to take your eyes off. Regularly bringing a chuckle, Bristol’s social media team has been doing an excellent job over this summer.

The club have gone to the lengths of creating their own GIF’s that are being posted on Twitter following an event during a game.

Added to this, they have been remarkably consistent with staying on brand. Any time a photograph or video of a member of the playing or coaching staff has appeared, they have been in Bristol Bears clothing.

The Bears’ Instagram stays in tune with their Twitter account. What they post is largely the same, but probably offer more behind the scenes content.

In addition to this, the club are using the apps new Instagram TV (IGTV) feature that is supposed to be rivaling YouTube.

All their videos are really high definition and enjoyable to watch and it will be interesting to see how many other clubs use the feature.

Photos have regularly been accompanied with red or blue, enforcing the clubs’ new image after being rebranded.

Everything seems to be right about Bristol at the moment and the social media is very much at the forefront of this.

Harlequins

Quins have been massively ahead of their Premiership rivals, in terms of social media, for the last few years and have stayed ahead of the opposition ever since.

With eye-catching colours that are on virtually every photograph that the club post, it is easy to get drawn in.

The club also has a lot of personality. With their logo being a Harlequin clown. The club can’t afford to take itself too seriously. There were plenty of photos taken on headshot day in which the players let their personalities shine through.

Much like Bristol, Quins also created their own GIFs to add further interest to their tweets.

Whilst there is nothing too extraordinary about Harlequins’ social media, they’re extremely consistent with what is put out there.

Their YouTube is by far the best in the league, regularly putting microphones on players and coaches to produce comical videos that get lots of rugby fans interested.

The majority of a clubs interaction with their fans will be on social media, that’s how important the platform is.
