Northampton Saints have confirmed that lock forward Tom Lockett has signed a contract extension to remain at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.

The 23-year-old is closing in on a significant milestone, sitting just one appearance short of 50 outings for the club. Since progressing from the Saints Academy in 2021, Lockett has established himself as a regular presence in the second row and a dependable option in Northampton’s engine room.

Standing at 6ft 7in, the lock has moved through the club’s age-grade system into senior rugby, making his competitive debut in the PREM Rugby Cup during the 2021/22 season. He became a more frequent figure in matchday squads over subsequent campaigns and secured his Gallagher PREM debut in the 2023/24 season.

His performances at club level have also been recognised nationally. Lockett has represented England A and was included in a senior England training squad during the Autumn Nations Series.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Lockett said staying at Northampton was a straightforward decision, highlighting his connection to the club, the squad’s depth in the second row, and the competitive training environment.

“Staying at Saints was an easy decision for me,” Lockett told the club's official website.

“This Club is where I grew up playing my rugby; it’s where my mates are, and it’s where we’re building something genuinely exciting.

“Being part of a young group that’s developing fast, but also pushing hard for more silverware, is a brilliant environment to come into every day.

“We’ve got real depth in the second row. Training alongside players like Alex Coles, Ed Prowse, Chunya Munga and JJ van der Mescht pushes all of us to raise our level.

"Each of us brings something different, and that competition has been massive for my development".

Northampton Saints hold the top position in the Gallagher PREM table with seven wins from nine matches.
