Stormers made an impressive start to the new season of Super Rugby as they blanked out Hurricanes with a 27-point victory at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

Winger Sergeal Petersen made a head start for the hosts with an eighth minute try and just as the first quarter was about to end, Steven Kitshoff also touched down.

Springboks star Herschel Jantjies increased Stormers lead further with Herschel Jantjies dotting down while Damian Willemse slotted two conversions in the first half as they had a 19-0 lead before the break.

Hurricanes' chances of coming back was hampered with Billy Proctor sin-binned in the 48th minute and just when they returned to full strength Vaea Fifita was yellow-carded.

Willemse with his maiden penalty kick increased the South African side's lead to 22 points and as the full time was approaching the fly-half ensured Stormers claimed a bonus point with his side's fourth try as they completed a 27-point win.

Stormers will now face Bulls in their next clash at DHL Newlands on 8th February while Hurricanes will lock horns with Jaguares next on 9th February at Estadio Jose Amalfitani.
