South Africa go into this week's Rugby Championship clash with Australia looking for a third straight win while their opponents are yet to get off the mark.
Two victories - one comprehensive, the other hard-fought - over Argentina put South Africa on top of the table as Australia were twice beaten by rivals New Zealand as they again failed to win back the Bledisloe Cup.
Australia have been dealt another blow as regular skipper James Horwill is missing from Saturday's Brisbane encounter and scrum-half Will Genia will deputise.
"Losing your captain is always a massive blow to any environment or any team," front rower Sekope Kepu said.
"In saying that Willie, you know, Will Genia is a great captain himself and he's led Queensland and the Wallabies before and not to mention Benny Mowen, he's transitioned well into that vice-captain role."
Meanwhile, Springboks captain Jean de Villiers says he knows his team have to overcome a poor record in Australia if they are to make it three wins in a row.
"The challenge this time around is a really big one in that we don't have a good record here but that creates an opportunity where hopefully we can make history," he said.
South Africa have won 11 times in 33 attempts on Australian soil but not once since 2009 in Perth.
And de Villiers hopes the attacking brand of rugby his side are showcasing will put them in with a fighting chance at the Suncorp Stadium.
"We've scored some fantastic tries this year, we've been able to work on our counter-attacking and to play off turnovers. We might just surprise you tomorrow," he added.
