Cardiff Blues 27 - 16 Newport Gwent Dragons, Arms Park

Fly-half Steve Shingler contributed with 17 points as Cardiff Blues went on to defeat Newport Gwent Dragons by 27-16 in their Pro 12 encounter on Monday.

Player of the match Shingler needed just one minute to get the proceedings on for Cardiff Blues with a converted try and also added a penalty. However, his counterpart Angus O'Brien responded with two penalties of his own to reduce the gap to four points.

A 21st penalty from Shingler took Cardiff Blues to 13 points but the scorers were levelled when Dragons wing Ashton Hewitt crossed over in the 23rd minute allowing O'Brien to add the extras.

The game took a turn when hooker Kristian Dacey and flanker Josh Navidi scored a try each in the final 10 minutes of the first half but was separated by O'Brien penalty. By half-time, Cardiff Blues had a lead of 27-16 over Dragons.

Both teams were reduced to 14-men temporarily in the 18th and 20th minute of the game when Cardiff Blues' centre Rey Lee-Lo and Dragons' lock Rynard Landman were sin-binned respectively.

The second half saw both the teams not scoring a point, thereby ensuring a 11-point win for Cardiff Blues.
