Scotland international Sean Lamont has extended his stay with Glasgow Warriors after signing a new one-year deal.

Lamont joined the Warriors initially for a two-year stint in 2003 and switched to Northampton in 2005. However, he was again drafted in the Scottish side in 2012-13 and has made 98 appearances overall for the club scoring 27 tries.

The 35-year-old, who made his international debut in 2004 for Scotland, has represented his country 104 times while contributing 70 points in it.

His 100th appearance for Scotland came in the 2015 World Cup and is only second in the list of most capped player for his country after Chris Paterson, who has played 109.

Since 2011-12, Glasgow Warriors have reached the play-off of Pro12 in every season while going on to clinch the title in 2015 and finishing as runners-up in 2014.

Admitting he still has in him to contribute to the club's success, Lamont was glad to extend his association with Glasgow.

"I feel I've still got more to give and I'm enjoying being part of a winning team.

“I want to keep on playing and I'm glad I get to extend my time at a club which I really enjoy representing."

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend lauded the winger for his commitment and consistency and hoped the club will benefit from Lamont's vast experience.

"Sean is a great role model of how to look after yourself physically and play at a consistently high level throughout a season.

"He's always said he'd like to keep on playing which is great, as the desire to keep improving and enthusiasm to play the game are vital components of performing well.

"He's shown that his motivation levels are just as high as ever and his rugby ability is clear for all to see.

"His influence around the group is a strong one as other players look up to him for what he's achieved in the game and what he's still delivering on the pitch.

"We're delighted to be able to have him with us for another season."

Recently Lamont was not included in the Scotland squad that will tour Japan in the summer.
