Wales' upcoming Six Nations campaign have been dealt another major blow as scrum-half Rhys Webb has been ruled out of the tournament following a knee injury.

The 29-year-old has been released from the Wales squad and is expected to be assessed further to decide the course of his rehabilitation.

The latest setback means Webb might have played his last game for Warren Gatland's side considering the new selection policy that will see only players with 60 or more Tests plying their trade overseas to be in contention for Wales selection.

Wales now will head into the tournament opener against Scotland on 3rd February without nine of their senior players.

Lions stars Sam Warburton, Dan Lydiate and Jonathan Davies have all been ruled out of the entire championship while Jake Ball’s shoulder injury is likely to leave the lock sidelined for all the fixtures.

Taulupe Faletau’s knee injury is set to keep the Bath number eight out for the first three matches while fly-half Dan Biggar is sidelined for a similar period due to a shoulder problem.

Fellow fly-half Rhys Priestland is currently out due to a hamstring injury and there are also doubts over full-back Liam Williams, who could yet require surgery on an abdominal injury.
