The Welsh Rugby Union has appointed Leicester Tigers assistant coach Alex Davies as Wales’ new full-time kicking coach.

Davies will join Steve Tandy’s coaching staff from September as preparations begin for the autumn phase of the Nations Championship.

Davies leaves Leicester after working as the club’s skills and kicking coach. His coaching career has also included spells with England Women, Rosslyn Park and the Netherlands.

As a player, Davies operated at scrum-half and fly-half and represented clubs including London Welsh and Bath before moving into coaching. His background combines specialist kicking experience with wider attacking and skills development.

Wales kicking coach role expands pathway focus

Davies will work closely with attack coach Matt Sherratt and will be responsible for developing the kicking philosophy within the senior men’s team.

His role will also extend beyond international windows, allowing him to work with players throughout the season and contribute to the wider development across the national pathway.

“I’m incredibly proud to be joining Wales as kicking coach, working under Steve Tandy and alongside an outstanding coaching team," said Davies.

“It’s a huge honour to represent Welsh rugby and an opportunity I’m extremely grateful for.

"There’s an exciting journey ahead for Welsh rugby and I can’t wait to get started and be a part of it.”
