Scorecard

Quade Cooper scored a penalty in the last minute as Queensland Reds completed a 16-15 victory over Brumbies in their Super Rugby clash at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

After the first 25 minutes went without a point, fly-half Wharenui Hawera got Brumbies off the mark with a 26th minute penalty to take them to 0-3 lead. However, Cooper responded with back to back penalties in the 32nd and 37th minute as the hosts went into half time with a three point lead.

Queensland Reds suffered a setback when their flanker George Smith was sin-binned in the 50th minute which also resulted in a penalty try for Brumbies. Soon Kyle Goodwin also crossed over as the visitors stretched their lead to nine points which they maintained until the final 10 minutes began.

Hamish Stewart provided the much needed breakthrough for Reds with his touchdown in the 71st minute and Cooper followed it with a conversion as the gap came down to two points. The Australia international held his nerve to deliver the 80th minute penalty kick, thereby securing a one point victory for Brumbies.

Brumbies continue to maintain their position at top of Australian Conference with 34 points while Reds have moved to second, displacing Waratahs.
