The Queensland Reds have added two promising young talents to their ranks, signing Nick Conway and Finn Mackay on two-year elite development squad contracts.
The 18-year-old backs will continue honing their skills in the Reds’ high-performance setup at Ballymore.
The signings are part of the Queensland Rugby Union’s continued investment in local pathways, following recent multi-year deals for other emerging players including Taione Taka, Treyvon Pritchard, Kingsley Uys, Will Ross, Bennett Armistead and Levi Slater.
Both Conway and Mackay have progressed through the Buildcorp Reds Academy, training alongside seasoned professionals and benefiting from the facilities at the BMS National Rugby Training Centre.
Conway, a Nudgee College product, impressed on the international stage with the Junior Wallabies at the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Italy, scoring twice against England — one of them an 80-metre intercept try.
Reflecting on his journey, Conway said, “I’ve enjoyed my whole time here since I came in the doors at Ballymore when I was 16. I’ve been treated so well.
"It’s an unreal experience training against such an elite Reds squad with so many Wallabies. That’s one of the plusses here. I’ve learnt a heap and feel there’s a lot more to come.”
