Mike Prendergast, the experienced rugby coach and former Munster player, has publicly confirmed his interest in taking on the head coach position at Munster Rugby.
The role became vacant following the recent departure of Graham Rowntree.
Prendergast, currently serving as the attack coach at Munster, has played a key role in the province’s success in recent years, particularly during their triumphant URC 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking about the opportunity, Prendergast said: "Munster is a special place for me. It's my home, and I’d be honoured to take on the responsibility of leading the club."
Prendergast's coaching resume is extensive and spans over a decade. Before returning to Munster in 2022, he honed his skills with French clubs such as Racing 92, Stade Français, and Grenoble, gaining valuable experience in both Top 14 and European competition.
A former scrum-half, Prendergast played for Munster during his professional career, giving him a deep understanding of the province’s ethos and culture.
Munster Rugby CEO Ian Flanagan has confirmed that the search for a new head coach is underway. While several candidates are being considered, Prendergast’s deep ties to the club and proven track record have made him a standout choice among supporters and analysts alike.
The new head coach is expected to be announced early next year.
