Wales international centre Eddie James has committed his future to the Scarlets after signing a new contract with the west Wales club.

The 24-year-old academy graduate has developed into an important figure at Parc y Scarlets after progressing from grassroots rugby to the international stage.

Eddie James Commits Future to Scarlets

James began his rugby journey with Carmarthen Quins before representing Coleg Sir Gâr and progressing through the Scarlets Academy.

He went on to represent Wales at Under-18 and Under-20 level before establishing himself in the Scarlets senior squad. James made an immediate impression by scoring on his United Rugby Championship debut against Edinburgh.

The powerful 6ft 4in, 104kg centre has now made 53 appearances for the Scarlets.

Wales Centre Continues Rapid Development

James made his senior Wales debut against South Africa in 2024 and has since collected 11 international caps.

Known for his explosive carrying, physicality and ability to distribute, James has become an important midfield option for both club and country.

Scarlets Director of Rugby Nigel Davies believes the centre’s best rugby is still ahead of him and described retaining a home-developed international as a significant part of the club’s plans.

“Keeping Eddie at Parc y Scarlets is a very significant signing for our club and we are delighted he will continue his rugby journey with us.

“Having players like Eddie at the heart of what we’re building is every bit as important as new players coming into the squad.

"We’re proud of our ethos of developing our own players and we want to give our young Welsh players an environment in which they know they can achieve their ambitions in a Scarlets jersey".

Scarlets Build Around Welsh Core

James said remaining at Parc y Scarlets was an easy decision after growing up supporting the club and developing through its regional pathway.

“Growing up in the region and supporting the Scarlets as a youngster, the club means a huge amount to me, it’s home to me and so it was an easy decision to extend my contract and I am delighted to be staying on at Parc y Scarlets.

“It’s an exciting season ahead for us. The new signings have added to the talent we already have and there’s a clear ambition about where we want to go as a group. There’s competition building and that will push standards and make us a better team."
