Premiership Rugby clubs have agreed on a reduction of salary cap by £1.4m for the 2020/21 season.

There has also been a reduction in marquee players, whose salaries does not come under the cap from two to one until the end of the 2022/23 season to help the clubs overcome the financial crisis created by the pandemic coronavirus.

The decision to overhaul of the league's salary cap was approved unanimously by all the 13 clubs last week.

Earlier, following the series of breaches by Saracens, a review submitted by former government minister Lord Myners had 52 recommendations on the salary cap but reduction of overall limit and marquee players were not included in it.

Premiership tournament has been on suspension since March following the outbreak of Covid-19 but the clubs are now given green light to resume training under the issued directives in small groups.

Earlier, Premiership Rugby issued a statement that they are aiming to restart the competition on 15th August and are determined to complete the 2019/20 season.

Exeter Chiefs were at the top of the table when the tournament was suspended after the 13th round and were followed by Sale Sharks, Bristol Bears and Northampton Saints.
