Ospreys have moved quickly to reinforce their back row by signing South African forward Marco de Witt on a short-term deal following the injury to Wales captain Jac Morgan.
The 23-year-old joins from Suzuki Griquas and arrives as cover after Morgan dislocated his shoulder while captaining Wales in their autumn international defeat to Argentina.
The injury is expected to rule Morgan out for approximately four to five months, creating a gap in the Ospreys back-row options.
De Witt played a key role in Griquas’ historic Currie Cup triumph earlier this year and is regarded as a promising young forward with strong physical attributes. His arrival provides immediate depth during a demanding period of fixtures.
Ospreys head coach Mark Jones said securing cover was a priority once Morgan’s injury was confirmed. He described de Witt as a player with significant potential who can bring a different balance to the back row.
"With Jac out injured, it was important to secure someone as cover, and we were happy someone of Marco's ability was available at this time of the season," said Jones.
"He's a young player who we feel can improve a lot in our environment.
"He will bring a different dynamic to our current back-row options, who have been putting in some quality performances in recent weeks for the team."
