Ospreys have named Wales international Justin Tipuric as the skipper for the upcoming season.

Tipuric has been with Ospreys since 2009 and has captained them 27 times in the last seven seasons/ He will take over the captaincy from Alun Wyn Jones, who stood down after leading the Liberty Stadium outfit for eight years.

The news was confirmed by Ospreys head coach Allen Clarke.

"An Osprey through and through, Justin is the right man for the job," said Clarke.

"Alun Wyn is a proud Osprey who has led the team with great honour from the front since 2010.

"It's important to remember he is still a major player and significant leader within our environment.

"Having discussed the position with him (Jones), it was clear he believed the time was right for the Ospreys to have a fresh voice as captain."

Tipuric has featured in 58 Tests including one for British and Irish Lions and has been part of Six Nations winning Wales side twice.

"Tips has a wonderful understanding of rugby, with a steely determination and skill set to match," said Clarke.

"He epitomises the past and what we aspire to be again."

Ospreys will begin the 2018/19 season of Pro14 with a clash against Edinburgh at Liberty Stadium on 1st September.
