Edinburgh centre Phil Burleigh has been handed a one-week ban and will be missing his club's European Challenge Cup clash against Stade Francais at Stade Jean Bouin on Thursday.

The 30-year-old has been charged with a slapping incident involving French lock Pascal Pape during the 55th minute of the game which his team won by 28-23.

Burleigh, who was sent off by referee Craig Maxwell-Keys appeared before an independent disciplinary hearing on Wednesday following which he was given a two-week ban which was reduced by one considering his track record.

Pape, who has played 65 times for France was also warned by the citing commissioner Eddie Wigglesworth for making most of the contact by throwing himself to the ground.

Edinburgh head coach Duncan Hodge expects a tough game in their return fixture against Stade Francais.

"It'll be tough and physical, but the fight we showed to come back from a 17-point deficit in last week's affair shows the character this squad possess," said Hodge.

Edinburgh continue to top Pool five of the European Challenge Cup after winning all the three games they have played till now.
