Newcastle Red Bulls have bolstered their squad with the addition of Harrison Obatoyinbo, Joel Grayson and Sam Waugh, all signing one-year deals after impressing during pre-season trials.
Obatoyinbo, 24, joins as a versatile wing or full-back. A graduate of the Saracens academy, he has previously played for Ealing Trailfinders before moving to France with Toulon and Stade Montois. He is also the brother of Newcastle full-back Elliott Obatoyinbo, giving the squad a family connection at the back.
Waugh arrives from Loughborough University, where the 20-year-old combined his sports management studies with rugby. Standing at 6ft 6, the tall full-back brings a unique physical presence and will look to develop quickly in a professional setup.
Completing the trio is Grayson, 23, who joins as a wing/full-back. He is the twin brother of Newcastle’s Ethan Grayson and a product of the Northampton Saints academy. Joel has also represented Old Northamptonians at club level and recently graduated from the University of the West of England.
Director of Rugby Steve Diamond expressed his confidence in the new signings.
“We’ve had a good look at all three lads during pre-season, and they deserve this opportunity,” said Diamond to the club's official website.
“They’ve worked incredibly hard, they’ve all got ability and they will add to our options across the back three.
"It’s a big chance for them to push on with their professional rugby careers, and I’m looking forward to seeing their continued development over the coming weeks and months.”
