Scotland international lock Max Williamson has reaffirmed his commitment to Glasgow Warriors by signing a contract extension, solidifying his place in Franco Smith’s squad.
The 22-year-old made his return from injury in the recent Investec Champions Cup quarter-final against Leinster, marking another milestone in his burgeoning career.
Williamson expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I'm extremely excited. The last few months obviously haven't been ideal after my injury, but it's been an absolutely brilliant year and I'm so pleased to be back fit and playing again."
Since making his professional debut in a 26-12 victory over Benetton, Williamson has become a mainstay in the Warriors' lineup.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him a spot in the Scotland squad for the 2024 Skyscanner Summer Tour, where he made his senior international debut in a commanding 73-12 win over Canada in Ottawa.
Reflecting on his development, Williamson acknowledged the support from his teammates:
"The group of second-rowers here has been massive for my development. The experience that JP [du Preez] and Scott [Cummings] bring has been invaluable and have been great mentors for me at the set-piece, and working with Alex [Samuel] and Jare [Oguntibeju] has helped us all drive each other forward this year."
Head Coach Franco Smith praised Williamson's potential, stating, "Max is a young player who we believe has the potential to be a key player for both Glasgow Warriors and Scotland for many years to come.
"His performances both last season and prior to his injury this season showcased his ability both at the set-piece and in the loose, and his skillset make him a real asset for our squad."
