Queensland Reds have secured a promising future with young prop Massimo De Lutiis, who has extended his contract until the end of 2026.
The 20-year-old, known for his strength and power at 126kg, was originally signed through next season, but both parties agreed to an additional year, highlighting the Reds' commitment to his development and potential.
He joins seasoned props like Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Zane Nonggorr, Matt Gibbon, Alex Hodgman, Sef Fa’agase, and George Blake, creating a formidable lineup in the scrum.
A former Australian Under-20s player, De Lutiis has already made a mark in the international scene through the Reds International Program, earning three caps in matches against Japan's Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights, Wales, and Tonga.
His memorable Reds debut came last November when he delivered a crucial scrum performance to secure a 31-29 victory over the Wild Knights, demonstrating his strength under pressure.
“I’ve definitely felt the benefit of those international games and playing against different styles and sizes of opponents” De Lutiis told the club's official website.
Reds head coach Les Kiss is upbeat about De Lutiis extending his time at the club.
“From the moment he made his impact against the Wild Knights with that final scrum, we’ve seen Massimo’s promise as a prop,” Kiss said.
“He’s shown a lot of character and discipline to come back strongly from injury. At training, you see how keen he is for knowledge and the diligence to do what it takes to keep improving.”
The Reds are looking to further develop their squad ahead of the 2025 Super Rugby season, with international matches against teams like the Wild Knights, Bristol, and Ulster providing valuable experience.
