Saracens’ Director of Rugby, Mark McCall, has delivered his end-of-season message, marking the 2024/25 campaign as one of transformation, youth development, and emotional milestones.
While the team narrowly missed out on a spot in the Premiership playoffs, McCall's tone was one of pride and optimism as he highlighted the club’s evolution and its bright future.
“The 2024/25 season has been a story of change. The average age of our squad is 24, with 13 academy graduates making their debut this season," he told the club's official website.
"We have our largest academy intake ever for the 2025/26 season, alongside some excellent senior squad recruitment. We are a club full of potential, I’m excited for the future.”
This season saw Saracens lean heavily into its academy system, ushering in a new generation of players while also honouring veteran contributions.
Milestone moments were celebrated throughout the year: Alex Goode reached 400 appearances, Jamie George marked his 300th, Nick Tompkins played his 200th, and Nick Isiekwe completed his 150th. Centurion milestones were also achieved by Andy Christie, Ivan van Zyl, and Rotimi Segun.
“These moments – some of which are unlikely to be repeated – are what make this group and our club special.”
McCall also looked ahead to the summer with enthusiasm, as many Saracens players are set to feature in representative rugby. Among them, Maro Itoje’s anticipated captaincy role was singled out with pride.
“It will be a proud moment for all connected with Saracens when Maro leads out the Lions in Australia.”
