Luke Wallace sign contract extension with Harlequins

Harlequins have confirmed that flanker Luke Wallace has extended his contract with the Aviva Premiership club.

Wallace, a product of the Harlequins academy, had joined the club in 2009 and has made 135 appearances till now. His performances in the 2011/12 season saw him nominated to the discovery of the season award in the Premiership Rugby.

Harlequins rugby director John Kingston lauded Wallace for committing his future with Harlequins and he believes the 26-year-old has the talent and ability to represent England.

"I am delighted that Luke has committed his foreseeable future to Harlequins," said Kingston.

"He is respected hugely in the group, both as a person and as a quality back row forward."

Wallace has been part of the England Saxons team and also appeared in the clash against Barbarians in 2014. Currently, the England team has been plagued with injuries to their openside specialists with James Haskell, Sam Jones, Jack Clifford and Mike Williams all ruled out of the November Tests.

There are talks among the England camp that Eddie Jones might use Saracens' Maro Itoje at seven to address the problem but Kingston expressed his surprise on why Wallace was continued to be sidelined despite the injury concerns to their specialists.

"It is something of a mystery to me that he has not yet taken the step to the international squad to challenge for appearances on the highest stage," said Kingston.

"With the undoubted development, which still lies within him, I am sure it is only a matter of time."

Wallace however was simply keen to reveal his delight at securing his future.

"I'm really excited to have committed my future to a club, coaching set-up and squad that I truly believe in," said Wallace.

"My decision to renew was a quick and easy one. Harlequins is all I've known during my career and I can't imagine being anywhere else.

"I'm looking forward to working hard with an exciting group of players and positively impacting the history of Harlequins."
