Louis Rees-Zammit says he is ready to make an impact after signing for Bristol Bears, declaring himself “bigger and faster” following his 18-month stint in the NFL.
The Welsh international winger joins immediately after spells with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The 24-year-old left rugby union in January 2024 to chase an American football career but returns with an impressive record — 14 tries in 32 Tests for Wales and experience with the British & Irish Lions on their 2021 South Africa tour.
Before his NFL move, he scored 42 tries in 77 games for Gloucester Rugby.
Rees-Zammit said Bristol’s attacking style made the decision easy.
“The way they play the game is the way I see myself in that team. The attacking play is amazingly structured, and I think I can thrive off that,” he explained.
“My size is bigger, my speed is faster, and I’ve learned a lot about myself and my body over the last 18 months. I’m raring to go.”
He also praised the Bears’ passionate supporters as a major reason for joining.
“Bears have a brilliant fanbase, and that was one of the big reasons for me signing.
"The players are exceptional, and the coaches as well, so I’m excited to get stuck in,” he said.
Rees-Zammit is determined to bring his pace and try-scoring instincts to the Premiership side.
“It’s about being confident in my ability to change games and create opportunities. I pride myself on finding space, using my speed, and my chip-and-chase is one of my trademark skills,” he said.
