Brumbies 6-13 Lions, GIO Stadium

Kwagga Smith scored the only try in the game as Lions managed to edge out Brumbies by 6-13 in a low scoring encounter at GIO Stadium on Friday.

Wharenui Hawera scored the only penalty in the first half from either side as Brumbies took a slender three point lead at half time.

Even though, the hosts managed to maintain the lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half, a 51st minute penalty from Elton Jantjies helped Lions level the scores. They soon went into the lead with a touchdown from Smith that was followed by the conversion from Jantjies.

Hawera's second penalty in the 60th minute raised Brumbies' hopes as the trail came down to four points but fullback Andries Coetzee kicked the final minute penalty to seal a seven point victory for Lions.

This is Lions' 10th victory in 11 games this season as they continue to top Africa 2 Conference while Brumbies are at the top of Australian Conference despite suffering their fourth successive defeat.
