Leinster Rugby have confirmed that South African-born backrower Josh Neill will be part of the province’s Year One Academy intake, with his arrival scheduled for early 2026.
Neill, 18, is currently completing his studies at Rondebosch Boys’ High School in Cape Town. He has represented South Africa Under-18s, featuring in the summer series against France, England, and Ireland earlier this year. Alongside his school commitments, he has been playing club rugby for Western Province.
Although born in South Africa, Neill qualifies to play for Ireland through his grandparents. His move to Leinster reflects the province’s continued efforts to identify Irish-qualified players abroad and integrate them into the development pathway.
He also has sporting ties in Ireland through his older brother, Jordan Neill, who is already based in the country. Jordan plays cricket for the Northern Knights, has represented Ireland Under-19s, and made his senior international debut in a One Day International against the West Indies earlier this summer.
Leinster Academy manager Simon Broughton welcomed the addition, noting that Neill would officially link up with the squad once his school year in South Africa concludes.
