Leinster have been handed a major boost ahead of their crucial Investec Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton Saints as South African lock RG Snyman returned to training.
The towering second row had been out of action after picking up a shoulder injury during their round-of-16 clash against Leicester Tigers.
Head coach Leo Cullen offered a positive update on Snyman’s status, stating, "It is good to have RG back with the group. We'll see how the rest of the week goes, but he has a chance to be involved this weekend."
RG Snyman’s availability comes at a critical moment for Leinster as they prepare for a tough challenge.
Known for his physical dominance, dynamic ball carrying, and experience on the big stage, Snyman’s presence could give Leinster a significant edge against a fast, physical Northampton side.
While Leinster supporters had been anxiously awaiting news on his recovery, Cullen remained cautious, indicating that a final decision would only be made closer to match day.
"We'll have a better idea closer to the game," he said.
Leinster are targeting their fifth Champions Cup title and having a player of Snyman’s caliber back in the mix could be decisive.
His leadership and lineout prowess will be vital, particularly as Leinster look to tighten their set-piece control against a Saints side that has shown strong attacking flair throughout the season.
In addition to Snyman’s return, Leinster have been managing other squad injuries but hope to field a strong lineup as they aim to reclaim European glory, having last won the tournament in 2018.
With the semi-final to be held at the iconic Croke Park, expectations are high, and Snyman’s potential inclusion could be the final piece to tip the scales in Leinster’s favor.
As training intensifies this week, Leinster will closely monitor Snyman’s performance to determine his match readiness. His comeback could be the timely boost needed to help Leinster power their way into another Champions Cup final.
