Exeter Chiefs have confirmed that tighthead prop Jimmy Roots has signed a contract extension, securing his future with the club from the 2026/27 season.
Jimmy Roots Extends Exeter Chiefs Contract
Roots joined Exeter from Ealing Trailfinders in the summer of 2024 and has quickly become a popular figure at Sandy Park. The 26-year-old said staying at the club was an easy decision, pointing to the squad environment, the progress made by the team and the chance to continue playing top-level rugby close to family.
“I just love it here. The group we have, how we’ve managed to turn things around, is pretty exciting to be a part of.
"My first year here, even though we were struggling, I was still living my dream at the highest level of the sport so to be able to be successful has been an eye-opener. I want to continue being a part of that.
“The group of boys here are class, I get to be close to my brother and spend lots of time with my family, so it was really a no-brainer when we spoke about extending my contract. This is the place for me.”
Jimmy Roots Career Path To Sandy Park
Born in New Zealand, Roots began his rugby development with East Coast Bays in Auckland and later represented Blues Under-20s and North Harbour.
He moved to England in 2021 and joined Ealing Trailfinders, where he made 27 appearances and won the Championship title twice.
Since arriving at Exeter, Roots has made 31 appearances after debuting against Cornish Pirates in the PREM Rugby Cup in October 2024. He has also brought junior All Blacks experience to the club.
