Olly Woodburn has signed a new contract with Exeter Chiefs, extending his stay at Sandy Park more than a decade after first establishing himself in the senior side.
The winger remains one of the club’s most experienced backs and is closing in on the 200-appearance mark in Exeter colours.
Olly Woodburn Signs New Exeter Chiefs Contract
Woodburn joined Exeter from Bath Rugby in 2015 and has gone on to become a key figure in the Chiefs squad. During his time in Devon, he has helped the club win two PREM titles and the European Champions Cup, making him one of the more decorated players in the current group.
The 33-year-old said he was honoured to continue his journey with the club and remains motivated to help Exeter challenge for more success in the coming seasons.
I’m honoured to have the opportunity to continue my journey here and to keep chasing trophies with such a talented group of players and staff.
“This club has become home for me over the past decade, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support from the fans, the coaches, and everyone behind the scenes.
“I’m excited for what’s ahead and motivated to keep improving, contribute to the team and hopefully help bring more success to the club.”
Exeter Chiefs Career Numbers And Experience
Woodburn has made 196 appearances and scored 63 tries for Exeter, underlining his consistency and longevity at the top level. His recent performances have come both on the wing and at full-back, showing his versatility across the back three.
Director of Rugby Rob Baxter said Woodburn’s form and physical condition made the extension an easy decision.
“Olly is one of the old guard now, so we’re delighted to have him staying longer. He’s a guy who, it’s like the saying goes, is a fine wine.
“He’s been playing really well this season, been very consistent wherever we’ve asked him to play, whether that’s at full-back or wing. He’s kept himself in really good condition, and he really puts focus on ensuring he keeps his conditioning at the top level.
"That allows his skillset, such as his ability under the high ball and his prowess in finishing tries, to remain premium.
“All of those things made it easy for us to decide to keep him. I also like the balance of the squad with the younger players mingled in with more mature players like Olly.”
