Australia head coach Joe Schmidt has named James Slipper as the captain for the second and final Test against Ireland.

The decision follows after flanker Liam Wright, who led the side to victory in the opening game of the series has been ruled out due to an injury.

With Taniela Tupou also declared fit, the same front-row has been retained by Schmidt along with Slipper and Matt Faessler while Jeremy Williams and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto maintain their second row partnership.

Meanwhile, the absence of Wright sees Robert Valetini shifted to blindside with debutant Charlie Cale taking his place at number eight. Tom Lynagh drops out of the matchday squad after sustained a knock during a training session. Hooker Josh Nasser, son of Brendan could make his debut when he comes off the bench.

"We found out a bit about ourselves last week and are looking forward to learning a bit more on Saturday night," Schmidt said.

"We've worked hard again this week in Melbourne and will be going out to earn the support of those in the stands and those at home on Saturday night."
