Gloucester Rugby have confirmed that Australia hooker James Hanson will make an exit from the Gallagher Premiership club with immediate effect.

Hanson headed to Kingsholm on a short-term deal in 2017 before securing a permanent contract with them. Until now, the 32-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Cherry and Whites including 29 games in the Premiership in which he scored seven tries.

Hanson, who also played 12 Tests for the Wallabies between 2012 and 2016 will head back to Australia to be with his family.

"Obviously we are sad to see James leave the Club but are equally understanding of the opportunities he has to return home to Australia," said Gloucester chief operating officer Alex Brown.

"James has been the consummate professional during his time at Kingsholm, and we wish him the very best for the future."

Meanwhile, the club also confirmed that Argentina international Santiago Socino for the remainder of the ongoing season.

The 6ft 1in hooker started his career with Hull RUFC in 2013 and also played for Newcastle Falcons between 2015 and 2019 during which he also had loan stints with Darlington Mowden Park and Rotherham Titans. He made a switch to Super Rugby side Jaguares in 2019 but now will make a return to the Premiership after signing a contract with Gloucester.

"With James moving on, it was important for us to secure the services of another quality hooker, and Santiago fits that bill," added Brown.

"Santiago arrives with international and Premiership pedigree and will provide added strength in depth to our hooker resources."

Gloucester currently are languishing at the bottom of the Gallagher Premiership table with a solitary win from seven matches.
