Gloucester Rugby have confirmed that back row Ruan Ackermann has penned a new deal with the Gallagher Premiership club.

Ackermann made his debut for the Cherry and Whites in 2017 and has gone on to make 75 appearances for the club including 60 Premiership games in which he scored nine tries.

Prior to his association with Gloucester, the 25-year-old featured for Golden Lions in Currie Cup and Lions in Super Rugby. He also represented South Africa A and Barbarians sides in the past.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to sign a new deal with Gloucester Rugby," he told the official website of the club.

"This Club has become a huge part of my life in England and the past 4 years, and I am looking forward to being able to share more memories with the love and support of the fans at Kingsholm.

"We are fortunate to have a really gifted squad, and I am excited to keep developing, learning and growing in this environment."

Gloucester Chief Operating Officer Alex Brown is pleased with Ackermann committing his immediate future with the club.

"We are continuing to build a physical and powerful pack, and Ruan remains a key part of that. He has shown over the last few years how strong he is with the ball in hand, but also in defence too.

We know that Ruan will continue to progress as a player and naturally we are delighted that he will be turning out in Cherry & White for years to come."

Gloucester currently are languishing at the bottom of the Gallagher Premiership after managing a solitary win from six games and will take on Northampton next on Saturday at Kingsholm Stadium.
