The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has confirmed on Monday that George North has been ruled out of the remainder of the series against New Zealand after suffering a hamstring injury in the first Test against the All Blacks in Auckland.

North sustained the injury in the final stages of the game which his team went on to lose by 39-21 despite having a lead of 15-18 at the half-time.

"George North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand and has been released from the squad," a statement from the WRU said.

"North suffered a hamstring injury in the first test in Auckland, ruling him out of Wales' remaining games.

"Further information will be made available in due course."

Wales have already called-up Scarlets fly-half Rhys Patchell to the squad on Saturday and he will start on the bench along with Aaron Jarvis and Aled Davies for the encounter against Chiefs in Hamilton on Tuesday.

Ospreys wing Keelan Giles will also join the squad from the Wales World Rugby U20 team before the second Test against All Blacks on 18th June in Wellington.
