All Blacks winger Leroy Carter has become the sixth New Zealand player ruled out of the end-of-year Nations Championship matches in Europe after undergoing surgery on a high ankle injury.
Carter ruled out after ankle surgery
Carter suffered the injury while scoring during New Zealand’s 50-19 victory over Australia in the first Bledisloe Cup Test at Eden Park on October 10.
The injury occurred in the act of scoring following contact with Wallabies flanker Rob Valetini. Carter has since undergone surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Josh Moorby replaced Carter on the wing for the second Bledisloe Cup Test in Sydney and remains among New Zealand’s options for the November fixtures.
All Blacks injury list continues to grow
Carter joins captain Ardie Savea, Luke Jacobson, Caleb Clarke, Ruben Love and Ollie Norris among those unavailable for the northern tour through injury.
Savea is recovering from a shoulder injury, Jacobson has an elbow tendon injury, Clarke is sidelined by a shoulder problem, Love underwent ankle surgery and Norris has been ruled out by a knee injury.
New Zealand are also awaiting further assessments on Shannon Frizell and Samisoni Taukei’aho after their 43-21 victory over Australia in Sydney.
Forwards coach Jason Ryan said Frizell would undergo a scan following a non-contact injury, while Taukei’aho was also due to be assessed after experiencing calf tightness.
All Blacks head to Europe in November
New Zealand begin their northern Nations Championship programme against Scotland at Murrayfield on November 7.
They then face Wales in Cardiff on November 14 and England at Allianz Stadium in London on November 21.
