Brumbies 19-13 Waratahs, GIO Stadium
Scorecard
Folau Fainga'a scored a double as Brumbies edged out Waratahs 19-13 in their Super Rugby clash at GIO Stadium on Friday.
This is Brumbies' second win from five games as they move to the second position in the Australian Conference while Waratahs are at third place.
Bernard Foley's shot at the goal turned advantage for Waratahs as the ball hit the uprights and bounced back with Michael Hooper collecting it and dotting down in the 4th minute.
The response from Brumbies came 10 minutes later when Fainga'a crossed over the line and by the 23rd minute, he got his second as the home side raised their lead to 12-5. Any chance of a Waratahs comeback in the first half was put off with Sekope Kepu sin-binned in the 35th minute for a dangerous tackle.
Nevertheless, Brumbies failed to capitalise on the advantage and by the 49th minute Alex Newsome dotted down after brilliance from Israel Folau that reduced the gap to just two points.
Waratahs' infringements continued to hamper them and this time it was Johnson-Holmes, who was yellow-carded and to make things worse Brumbies were awarded a penalty try to make the scoreline 19-10 and all the visitors managed in the remaining of the game was a penalty kick from Foley as they succumbed to a six point defeat.
