Newcastle Falcons 50-7 Grenoble, Kingston Park
Scorecard

Newcastle Falcons ran an eight-try riot to register their maiden victory in the European Challenge Cup 2016/17 after outclassing Grenoble by 50-7 at Kingston Park on Sunday.

Flanker Will Welch (3'), lock Will Witty (24'), scrum half Tane Takulua (31') and Mark Wilson (40') scored the tries in the first half for the Newcastle Falcons while fly-half Joel Hodgson converted all the four tries as Dean Richards' men raced to 28-0 lead in the first half.

The problems compounded for the Top 14 side when centre Maritino Nemani was sin-binned at the start of the second half following which Ben Sowrey (43'), Hodgson (51'), Scott Lawson (63') and Marcus Watson (77') rumbled across the post. Hodgson, though, missed conversion on three of the second half tries.

Centre Edward Sawailau was the lone try-scorer for the visitors, who managed only seven points overall in response to Newcastle Falcons' 50. The win has taken the Falcons to the third position in the Pool 2 table while Grenoble are languishing at the bottom of the table with two defeats from as many games.

In the next round, Newcastle Falcons will take on Lyon at Matmut Stadium while Grenoble will have a home game against Ospreys.
