Chiefs came from 20 points behind to beat Crusaders 40-27 in their Super Rugby encounter at ANZ National Stadium on Saturday.
The win has taken Chiefs to the third position in the New Zealand Conference that is topped by Crusaders.
In a rampaging start Crusaders were on flow from the opening minute with Scott Barrett (11'), Mitch Drummond (16') and Sevu Reece (21') scoring tries while Richie Mo'unga kicked a conversion and a penalty as they raced to a 0-20 lead.
The Chiefs did not relent under pressure and found momentum with Solomon Alaimalo (29'), Samisoni Taukei'aho (55') and Jesse Parete (37') all dotting down while Jack Debreczeni kicked conversions on two occasions as the teams went into the break with a 19-20 scoreline.
Braydon Ennor crossed whitewash early in the second half but Crusaders found hard to maintain their lead with Chiefs riding on tries from Brad Weber (48'), Shaun Stevenson (67') and Tumua Manu (78') ensured the hosts completed a 40-27 win.
