Scorecard

Chiefs bounced back from their defeat to Crusaders with a 21-27 bonus-point victory over Blues in their Super Rugby encounter at Eden Park on Friday.

The win has taken Chiefs to the third position in New Zealand Conference while Blues are at fourth.

Augustine Pulu scored an early try in the seventh minute that was converted by Bryn Gatland but the response from Chiefs came five minutes later when Taleni Seu crossed over, though they failed to add the conversion.

The start of the second quarter saw Akira Ioane diving past the line and once again Gatland was spot on with the extras as they stretched the lead to nine points that was reduced to four when Sean Wainui crossed over in the 25th minute.

Trailing 14-10 the visitors showed a lot of intensity in the second half with tries from Sam Cane (47') and Brad Weber (49') as they went on to claim the bonus points. Damian McKenzie finally managed to get his act right as he kicked two conversions and a penalty as Chiefs had a lead of 14-27.

Gatland tried to bring Blues back in the game with a converted try in the 61st-minute, the Chiefs held on to their six point lead in the final 18 minutes to get their first win of the season.
