Saracens back-row Jacques Burger says his side have start the defence of their Premiership crown very well and he is relishing the chance to be back involved with club rugby.

Burger has been back in training with Sarries after finishing his Rugby World Cup campaign with Namibia, but the 32 year-old suffered concussion in their penultimate pool match against Tonga.

This has meant that Burger has had to wait for his comeback and now he is eager to get going after he announced that he will retire in May 2016.

He said: “It’s been great to be back. Saracens has been my family for six years now and I have always said when I get back here, it felt like home.

“To be back with the boys who I have been with for a long time, it felt special again. This could possibly be my last season and I will really relish every moment. I am keen to get out there and train with the boys and I am just hoping it will stay special and every time I get out on the training field because there is not many left.”

Last year saw Saracens lift the Premiership trophy for just the second time in what was an enthralling campaign and Burger thinks that despite the World Cup taking centre stage, we should expect more of the same in this domestic season.

He added: “I am actually excited for the Premiership as well. Even though it is a World Cup year, sometimes these tournaments and conditions lose a bit of their speciality because there are internationals going on, but I really feel that as soon as the World Cup passes, everyone will be focused on the Premiership.“

Saracens have started the season in fine form with two wins over Sale Sharks and Gloucester and they currently sit top of the league.

And according to Burger, who indicated that he may be involved this weekend against London Irish, it is the perfect start the side needed as they look to be successful in both the Premiership and in Europe.

“The boys are playing well, continued Burger.” It will be tough to get a lot of game time off the back of doing so well last year and we have signed a couple of new guys so I am massively excited for the challenge. Hopefully we can back our success up from last year, be competitive and hopefully get into the playoffs and the same with Europe as well.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but I might be involved this weekend. I have been training with the team and there is a good possibility that I can play.

“I am excited and knowing that there isn’t a lot of playing time left, it is starting to sink in, so I just want to get out there and enjoy it. It’s just about going out there, giving it your best and playing rugby with my friends."
