Bristol Rugby have confirmed the suspension of their rugby director Andy Robinson following the dismal performance of the English Premiership club this season.

The Ashton Gate outfit's promotion to the Aviva Premiership this season after seven years wasn't a memorable one as they have lost all the seven games this season. Even in the European Challenge Cup they faced defeat in both the encounters they have played and are languishing at the bottom of the table.

A statement released by Bristol confirmed the exclusion of Robinson and it further added that kicking coach Mark Tainton has been named as the in charge of the team while the club will be reviewing their coaching panel.

"Bristol Rugby have decided, following the extremely disappointing start to the season, to appoint Mark Tainton as acting head coach with immediate effect," said the statement.

"The club's all-time leading points scorer, Tainton has previously coached at international level with Ireland, as well as with Wasps and London Irish in the Aviva Premiership.

"The club have also taken the decision to suspend the current director of rugby, Andy Robinson, from his role.

"The club will carry out an immediate review of their coaching needs and requirements. That review will be completed as quickly as possible."

Robinson joined Bristol in 2013 and has worked as head coach of England, Scotland, Bath and Edinburgh previously.

Bristol chairman Chris Booy urged the fans to continue supporting the club during this tough phase.

"This is clearly a very difficult time for the club, but we remain confident we can retain our position in the Premiership.

"The support for the club this season has been outstanding, and that continued backing is very important going forward."
